Costa Concordia Rising

On January 13, 2012 the Concordia smashed into a reef off Giglio island. The captain of the ship brought it to close to shore and it ended up drifting then capsizing. It happened right off the island's port and 32 people were killed with 2 bodies yet to be found. Now more then a year later the ship is being brought up and this was finally achieved on January 17, 2013. This was said to be not possible but a team of 500 people from 26 different countries came together to do the impossible. It was a 19 hour long operation and costed about 600 million euros.

College Math

This is my first year taking college math and my teacher for the class is Ms. Ames. This is also my first year having Ms. Ames so I do not know much about her but she is a very nice lady. I expect to learn much needed math skills for when I enter college. The class is computer based using a program called Acellus. It is a new experience for me because the lessons are taught through thirty minute videos with questions at the end. I am use to having a teacher go up to the board and teach us the lesson. I feel like Acellus is harder but im getting through it.
The grading system is a grade out of 100. 20% for a weekly grade, 20% for participation, 40% for tests, and another 20% for notes in notebook. What I like about the class is that you have a weekly minimum of three lessons and the lessons are very short so you can complete the weekly goal in one day. Her website is here.

The Invisible Bicycle Helmet

The company Hövding has created a new helmet for cyclists known as the "Invisible Bicycle helmet". It is a collar which contains an airbag that will inflate and protect your head in case of a accident. It only takes about 0.1 seconds to inflate and it covers your skull and neck completely protecting your head. It costs about £260, translating to $345, and it has been being developed since 2005.

What September 11th means to me

September 11th means a lot to me but it means much more to the people that went through it and lost loved ones during the attack. I was 5 years old sitting in my kindergarten classroom when the buildings were hit. I remember my mom taking me out of school early and I had no idea why. When I got home I saw a huge amount of smoke coming out of 2 buildings but I didn't think much of it because I though it was just a fire. Not until I got much older I realized the extent of the situation and it was not just a fire.
